HILLSBORO, Ohio -- An Ohio high school Saturday blamed ignorance as it apologized for a banner displayed at a prep football game recalling the countrys brutal treatment of Native Americans.Several news organizations reported that some Greenfield-McClain High School cheerleaders held up the banner at a Friday night game against the Hillsboro High Indians. It read: Hey Indians, Get Ready for a Trail of Tears Part 2. The reference was to the 19th century forced relocation of Indians. Thousands died of starvation, illness or exposure.A horrific mistake was made, Greenfield-McClain High School said in a statement. A sign was created out of ignorance, not hate.Greenfield-McClain Highs principal, Jason Potts, emailed the apology to two Hillsboro-based newspapers, some 60 miles east of Cincinnati. It pledged that the school would partner with local organizations to further educate students about atrocities faced by both the Native American and African-American cultures. The statement expressed deepest sympathy to those of Indian and African-American descent, and a sincere apology to the communities, families and students of Hillsboro, Greenfield and elsewhere. The statement said the school was investigating how this deplorable situation happened and will take appropriate action.Parents had told WHIO-TV in Dayton that an earlier apology posted on the schools Facebook page was deleted after parents began commenting and asking questions.Hillsboro won the game 43-40. The controversial spot-kick was converted by Cesc Fabregas, as the Blues continued their unbeaten league record under Guus Hiddink. Chelsea 2-2 West Ham A controversial late Cesc Fabregas penalty earned Chelsea a 2-2 draw against West Ham The Hammers were heading for a place in the top four until that incident a minute from time when Michail Antonio brought down Ruben Loftus-Cheek, with replays showing the contact looked to be outside the area. And Bilic feels the challenge did not merit a penalty, and the referee has cost his side another vital three points. To concede a goal very late it is gutting anyway no matter how you concede it, but to concede it like that from a penalty, which was basically outside the box, it makes it unacceptable, Bilic told Sky Sports. Cesc Fabregas scored a controversial late penalty to deny West Ham It was outside, way outside. It is clear Antonio didnt want to trip him, he touched him but it wasnt even close to the line.It was one metre. So we can say it was hard and at full speed, and the player went down in the box, but we are not getting those penalities, we are not getting them. Charlie Nicholas reviews Chelseas 2-2 draw with West Ham Aside from the late penalty, Bilic was very pleased with his sides performance and the way his team played.ddddddddddddWe like the way were playing, to attack with numbers and we have that kind of quality. Theyre doing basics, dirty work and when we have the ball were really good.Of course Im proud of them but we deserved more, and it wasnt down to us and it wasnt down to Chelsea, no matter how great that move from Willian it wasnt a penalty.
