TORONTO -- Pat Watkins is back with the Toronto Argonauts. The all-star cornerback rejoined the defending Grey Cup champions Wednesday and was with his teammates for the first time since the start of training camp. The six-foot-five, 205-pound defensive back needed the time away to take care of unspecified personal matters in Florida. "The main thing is Im here," Watkins told reporters at Varsity Stadium. "Everybody welcomed me back with open arms and thats a really great feeling. "Im really relieved that Im here." In fact, Watkins said his teammates greeted him with a standing ovation upon his arrival. "It felt good," he said. "Theres still a lot of charisma on the team, a lot of people who make you laugh. The greatest thing about it, you can go away from your home and still feel like youre at home." Toronto will play its final exhibition game Thursday night against the Montreal Alouettes at Varsity Stadium but Watkins isnt expected to suit up. Watkins, 30, had 67 tackles and five interceptions with Toronto last season, his first in the CFL. However, the Florida native didnt participate in Torontos 35-22 Grey Cup win over Calgary due to injury. Watkins signed as a free agent with the Argos in May 2012 after spending time in the NFL with the Dallas Cowboys and San Diego Chargers. He said physically hes fine as he was able to continue working out in Florida. "Look, Im in great shape," he said. "The timing was just off. "If this had happened a few months back as far as everything going on I couldve made it here. As I said the great thing is Im here and Ive got the whole season to look forward to." Toronto can certainly use Watkins as sophomore Jahlil Carter is the lone holdover in the Argos secondary. Cornerback Pacino Horne was released Monday while defensive back Evan McCollough signed as a free agent with the Hamilton Tiger-Cats and veteran safety Jordan Younger has retired. Watkins certainly has some ground to make up considering the Argos opened training camp June 2. But the former Florida State star is fine with it if he has to reclaim his starting position to be on the field in time for Torontos season opener versus arch-rival Hamilton on June 28 at Rogers Centre. "Ive never been afraid of work," he said. "Thats fine with me." cheap nfl stitched jerseys . LOUIS -- Mike Smith is used to facing plenty of shots, so this was nothing new. Sydney midfield ace Dan Hannebery has called on all sections of the Swans team to help their back six subdue Adelaides potent attack in Saturdays AFL semi-final at the SCG.The Crows, who have kicked more goals than any other team in the competition, have already subjected Sydney to one torrid evening this season. They kicked more goals - 16 - and scored more points - 113 - against Sydney than any other team this year, when they beat the Swans by 10 points at Adelaide Oval back in round four..Hannebery stressed it would be a case of all hands to the defensive pump at the SCG against an Adelaide side coming off a 141-point offensive outburst against North Melbourne. Our defence is going to be like it was on the weekend, put under some serious pressure, Hannebery said, referring to last Saturdays loss to the GWS Giants.Weve got to make sure we support them as a midfield and forward group to try and help them limit the supply to their dangerous forward line..Hannebery was expecting an improved effort against the Crows after admitting GWS were too good for the minor premiers, but was adamant the Giants hadnt caught the Swans off guard in the first all-Sydney AFL finals derby.ddddddddddddThere was a number of areas we didnt play to the standard we hold of ourselves, Hannebery said.We missed a lot of tackles, they made a lot of tacklesWe just didnt maintain our hardness and our intensity for long enough.Looking back we were really disappointed with some of the things throughout the game.We want to try and get that right this week. The AFL has reportedly asked the Swans to outline the procedure they used prior to allowing Josh Kennedy to return from a bout of concussion last Saturday, but Hannbery was adamant his fellow midfielder had passed the appropriate test.He played really well (after coming back on) and was fine after the game so he was clearly right to come back on, Hannebery said.
