Essex 111 for 1 (Westley 58*) trail Worcestershire 230 (Cox 63, Rhodes 59, Masters 7-52) by 119 runsScorecardThere is an air of expectancy around Chelmsford these days. Not only are they top of Division Two, eyes set on the sole promotion spot, but their team possesses the perfect blend of youth and experience. Their Championship performances have eclipsed those in recent seasons and, as a bonus to winning games, they are doing so in style. For an Essex fan, it makes uncomfortable viewing. For the last few years they have had to temper expectations. Previous dawns have been false. Any calm a precursor to an unforeseen yet expected storm. At least in their eyes. In 2013, when Ben Foakes, now of Surrey, helped save Essexs blushes against Kent with a composed 86 - his highest score at the time - one fan shouted up to the players balcony as a wide-eyed Foakes, knowing only of Essex, was being interviewed: Well played Foakesy, but youll leave like the rest of em! Twice in this match you got the feeling some felt more comfortable in that default state of self-mocking schadenfreude. The first was a period after lunch, when Ben Cox led a Worcestershire charge, ably supported by George Rhodes, which saw boundaries flashed through the off side at will, as 94 was put on at over four an over. This would be so Essex, grumbled one fan sat in the sun-soaked stand opposite the Pavilion. Those five words came to mind when Nick Browne pressed forward and left a delivery from Joe Leach, who got one to move into the left-hander enough to strike his pad in front of the stumps. Off he went with the scoreboard gleaming 1 for 1. But as the dominant passages that engulfed those two blips indicated, even the most pessimistic fan would have left with a smile. Who knows, they may have joined the gaggle of well-oiled punters screeching Theres only one David Masters as Chelmsford closed up for the evening. After a sedate start, with Daryl Mitchell and Brett DOliveira reaching 35 for none, it was that David Masters who produced a remarkable spell which saw him take five wickets in the space of 32 balls, for the concession of just two runs. The first three fell in the 13th over, Masters second running from Hayes Close, as Ryan ten Doeschate asked the 38-year-old to try his luck from the less favourable end. DOliveira gave ten Doeschate a catch at bat-pad, Tom Fell overbalanced to the off side and was struck in front before Joe Clarke misjudged the line badly enough to be bowled past his outside edge, despite the ball moving in. Worcestershire skipper Mitchell was then given out lbw for the fourth before Ross Whiteley was bowled through the gate to hand Masters his first Championship five-wicket haul since 2014.It was from 48 for 5 where Rhodes and Coxs resistance began, but both raised half-centuries. Cox in particular looked in fine touch, bringing up his with 11 fours, compared to Rhodes, who took the steady approach to raise a second fifty of the season, off 107 balls. But one drive too many from Cox saw him caught at cover to give Jamie Porter his 50th Championship wicket of the season. Further help from Leach allowed Worcestershire to breach 200, before he and West Indies quick Miguel Cummins, on Worcestershire debut, gave Masters his sixth and seventh wicket of the innings, respectively. The wicket of Browne was as good as it got for Worcestershires bowlers, who toiled till close and were jeered off by a partisan group who had made full use of the hospitality bar to the left of the Pavilion. Tom Westleys unbeaten innings of 58 provided them with some late entertainment, as he registered a 10th score of fifty or more with some gorgeous shots through midwicket, a pair of straight drives taking him to 51 from 74 deliveries. The knock also made him the first Essex batsman to pass 1000 Championship runs this season (the first time he has achieved the feat). It feels like most of those runs have come with England captain Alastair Cook watching on from the other end, something which will undoubtedly work in his favour when Cook sits down with selectors to determine the make-up of the Test squad to tour this winter. Cook himself looked in good order, unbeaten on 43. However, he should not have made it past 12 when Leach, the pick of the visiting bowlers, drew him into a poke outside off stump. The chance, presented to Rhodes at third slip, was put down. Cheap Air Max Plus . -- Mike Smith never saw his first NHL goal go in. Cheap Fake Air Force 1 . In the lead up - which seemed to begin the moment Mike Geiger blew the whistle in Houston last Thursday night - the Impact rumour mill went into overdrive. The speculation went into meltdown mode, of the golden nugget variety. Fake Air Max 95 . Aaron Harrison scored a 22 points for Kentucky (6-1), which has won four in a row following a Nov. 12 loss to current No. 1 Michigan State. Fake Nmd Shoes .Y. -- Vancouver Canucks goaltender Roberto Luongo had little trouble picking up his first shutout of the season against a Buffalo Sabres team thats having trouble scoring goals.MONTREAL -- The Canadian Soccer Association is working to overturn a ban on turbans in Quebec and says provincial representatives there had no right to impose such a rule. The organization has waded more forcefully into the controversy over the Quebec Soccer Federations decision to restrict turban-wearing children from the pitch. The Ottawa-based association said Friday it is discussing the matter with the provincial body, that it considers the issue a top priority, and that it expects a change in position. The CSA reports directly to the FIFA world body and is responsible for granting or revoking the membership of provincial federations. Its bylaws stipulate that it sets the rules in this country and has the power to suspend, or expel, a provincial association. The association will not discuss whether it has arrived at the threat-issuing stage. However, it confirms it has reopened discussions with Quebec in the hope of forcing it to drop a position that has generated attention from international media. "(This) is the governing body for the sport in the country," said a Canadian association official, requesting anonymity. "The Quebec Soccer Federation falls under our supervision. So they would apply the regulations the way we mandate them to." The Canadian association has instructed all provincial bodies to allow players with turbans. Quebecs is the only to have refused. Quebecs federation explained this week it was concerned about safety and pointed out that the rules of the world governing body, FIFA, dont specifically allow turbans. Critics of the Quebec decision point out that FIFAs rules dont ban them, either. A spokesman for the provincial organization said Friday there would be no comment and added that nobody in the administration was available to discuss the matter. The voice mail of director-general Brigitte Frot, who made controversial comments earlier this week, said she was outside the office and would return Monday. Frot was asked during a teleconference what she would tell a five-year-old boy in a turban who showed up to register to play soccer with his friends. She replied: "They can play in their backyard." The Quebec decision applies to between 100 and 200 people, accordding to estimates from the local Sikh community.dddddddddddd The move has drawn coverage from some major foreign media, including the BBC, and earned condemnation from many federal politicians, especially within the Conservative government and the Opposition Liberals. But within Quebec, aside from the occasional critical newspaper column, there has been little sign of a public backlash. The Quebec soccer bodys sponsors, for instance, have resisted pressure to get involved. The Saputo cheese company and the Couche-Tard chain, which owns Macs convenience stores across Canada, have refused to offer any opinion on the matter. The Canadian soccer official said the national agency took up the issue again with provincial officials after the ban was announced following a board vote last weekend. "Thats the discussion were having with them... Were working on it." The president of the Canadian Soccer Association, Victor Montagliani, said in a statement Thursday that a clear majority of members agreed with allowing turbans and wanted Quebec to reverse course. He said the association wants to make soccer accessible to the largest number of Canadians and hopes to resolve the issue quickly. One longtime soccer coach and FIFA player agent said it would be a shame if Quebec discouraged a future star from taking up soccer. Dino Anastopulos, who has coached star players in B.C., said hes never seen a turban-related injury in 25 years of coaching. Some of his former players include Portuguese national team goalie Daniel Fernandes and Gianluca Zavarise, a Canadian national with Toronto FC. "I find it completely unacceptable that they can tell children that they cant take part in such a beautiful game," said Anastopulos, technical director of the Marpole Soccer Club in B.C. "What are we saying to this child -- that hes not fully Canadian?" He said the game should actually be a way for children from vastly different backgrounds to meet and get to know each other. "When they play, and interact, they can see theyre not that different from each other.... A good person is a good person," he said. "We can use the power of the sport as an educator, to break down these walls." ' ' '
