Jenson Button says F1s new owners should try to make the sport as interesting to young people as the horrific Pokemon Go craze he witnessed first-hand in Singapore.Button thinks the main focus point for Liberty Media, who have agreed to purchase a controlling stake in the sport, needs to be achieving a generational shift.From what Ive seen theyre interested in getting a much younger audience involved the sport, which is again something we need, Button said. The average age is much too high for where it should be considering we have an 18-year-old on the grid. I think the average age is high 30s, maybe early 40s. That needs to change, we need to target youngsters and the younger generation.On Wednesday Button posted a film to Instagram showing a long line of people walking through a shopping mall to catch Pokemon on the Pokemon Go app. The app requires people to visit certain points on a map to collect various Pokemon.Button does not believe those young people would choose Pokemon over Formula One if the latter was sold to them properly.This is a very technologically advanced sport, Formula One, so you would think there would be a lot of interest from youngsters but there isnt. As soon as youngsters sink their teeth into the sport theyre going to love it.
