Jarome Iginla didnt dance around the subject. A day after signing with the Bruins, he knew hed have to explain why he rejected a trade to Boston in late March for a move to the Pittsburgh Penguins. "At the time, Pittsburgh, they were rolling," Iginla said on a conference call Saturday. "They are two great organizations and they were just on a real roll. At the time, leaving at the deadline, I believed it was a great chance to win." After the Bruins swept the Penguins in the Eastern Conference final and Iginla didnt explore going back to Pittsburgh because of that teams salary-cap squeeze, he now considers Boston a great opportunity to win a Stanley Cup. But this Bruins group is much different than the one he could have joined for the 2013 stretch run. Right-winger Nathan Horton and defenceman Andrew Ference are gone via free agency, while centres Tyler Seguin and Rich Peverley were traded away. Despite the roster transformation, Iginla doesnt see much of a difference. "They have a lot of guys that have been there and played together and won together," Iginla said. "They still have a lot of guys who have played together for a long time, and the dynamic of the team, I imagine, would still be very similar with that many guys in the core and a part of it and experiencing what theyve experienced over the last five years. "I know that they lost some important guys, but they still have a very strong core and a bigger core than most teams have going year-to-year." Iginla is correct in saying that the core is intact. Captain Zdeno Chara, fellow defenceman Dennis Seidenberg and forwards Milan Lucic, David Krejci and Chris Kelly remain. The same goes for goaltender Tuukka Rask and coach Claude Julien. The Bruins acquired Jaromir Jagr at the trade deadline when they didnt get Iginla, but he is not expected to return. General manager Peter Chiarelli has no hard feelings toward Iginla and envisions a similar role for him in 2013-14 than he did before. "Jarome has played in this league and had success in this league for a long time, and hes been a leader in this league for a long time," Chiarelli said. "So I think hes going in with eyes wide open. But he knows what to expect and my expectations of him havent really changed that much either. Its a strong group, and itll be a seamless transition into the uniform based on what I know of him and how he plays and will continue to contend for a Cup." As the Bruins look to go from Stanley Cup runners-up to champions again, the dynamics could change a little based on the experience that went out the door in free agency and the Seguin-Peverley trade with the Dallas Stars that returned right-winger Loui Eriksson. "When you talk about leadership and losing people like (Ference) or (Peverley) or guys like that, it means the group also expands and the leadership expands to the younger guys," Chiarelli said. "Weve got some younger guys like (Krecji) and (Lucic) and these guys that are starting to really grow into that." At 36, Iginla brings leadership as well. He was the Calgary Flames captain before the trade to the Penguins and has the kind of personality that younger players gravitate to. Being a veteran in unfamiliar territory isnt easy -- Iginla learned that in Pittsburgh. Thats why hes not going to force anything as he slides into a new role with the Bruins. "Youre not trying to come in and create anything new. Youre just trying to come in and play hard with the guys," he said. "When you get into the playoffs and stuff, youre trying to be under control and control the emotions and all that and as far as playing. Boston has a core. Theyve been together a long time. Theyve been through so much already over the last five years and have had so much success. I look forward to coming in and learning." Cheap Air Jordan Free Shipping . Perhaps Carroll was so prepared for a break because he believes there is very little the Seattle Seahawks need heading into the off-season. "I dont see anything that we need to add. JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -- After watching his offense mostly struggle for seven games, Jacksonville Jaguars coach Gus Bradley lost faith that coordinator Greg Olson could turn it around. So Bradley made a change. Bradley fired Olson on Saturday, two days after an embarrassing loss at Tennessee in which the Jaguars (2-5) failed to score in the first half for the third time this season.Bradley addressed the move Monday, calling it difficult but necessary.I just felt like the offense needed to be stimulated more in certain areas, he said. I just think with our team and where were at right now, the direction we wanted to go, we just wanted to have a little bit of a different vision. ... I just couldnt grasp in my mind that the results are going to change if we continue going in this direction. The Jaguars rank 26th in the NFL in total offense. They are 31st in rushing and last in third-down percentage.Bradley promoted quarterbacks coach Nate Hackett to replace Olson. Hackett will call plays when the Jaguars play at Kansas City (5-2) on Sunday. Hackett spent two years (2013-14) as Buffalos offensive coordinator. Now, hes the third in three years for Jaguars quarterback Blake Bortles. Its been crazy. Its been an emotional roller-coaster, Hackett said. Its hard to have him go. And then its almost hard that Im also very excited, `Oh wow, this is exciting! And then you feel guilty being excited and then you realized we have a game in seven days and the players are like, `Oh gosh, whos this guy? Whats he going to be doing?Hackett brings a little more energy to the offensive meeting room. He also is expected to put more emphasis on the run game. The Jaguars have run the ball just 47 times for 207 yards in the last three games -- not nearly enough for a team that invested in the ground game by drafting T.J. Yeldon in 2015 and then signing Chris Ivory in free agency in March.I have always felt the best thing in the world for a quarterback is the run game, Hackett said.dddddddddddd I have always absolutely loved running the ball. I remember my first year at the Bills. I believe we were like one of the tops in the league. ... I think that you always are going to want to try and run the ball as much as you can and try to force that envelope.Equally important to fixing the teams sputtering running game is getting Bortles back to his 2015 form.Bortles has completed 60 percent of his passes this season for 1,904 yards, with 12 touchdowns and nine interceptions. He has struggled with his accuracy, partly because his motion has become so elongated that defensive backs are breaking on passes and linemen are batting down balls.Hes hardly looked like the same guy who ranked second in the NFL with 35 TD passes last season. Bortles said Monday hes bringing in QB guru Adam Dedeaux to spend two days fine-tuning his throwing motion.Bortles said the two-day session will focus on footwork, which should translate to better upper-body mechanics.Everybody keeps telling me there are things wrong with him and I understand that because were not winning, but hes also done a lot of really good things, Hackett said. Sometimes people try to focus on all the negative things with Blake. I dont really do that. I try to look at more of the positive things and see how we can do those more to get him into a more comfort level. If you dont have the run game, you put a lot more on him to try and throw the ball so many times and youre in those situations. Its not good for any quarterback, let alone a third-year quarterback, and thats now going to be on his third coordinator. ... We have to just be better on getting on the same page and helping him, which would then help everyone and everybody will be like, `Oh hes great.---AP NFL website: www.pro32.ap.org and http://twitter.com/AP-NFL ' ' '
