OMAHA, Neb.--?Michael Phelps?said he wanted his last competitive race on U.S. soil to be a victory. He did just that, and in dramatic fashion, on Saturday by rallying over the final lap to win the 100-meter butterfly at the U.S. Olympic swimming trials and qualify in the event for next months Rio de Janeiro Games. The 31-year-old Phelps, swimming in Lane 7 and against opponents with an average age of 23, will now get a chance to win his fourth straight gold in the 100 fly at Rio.Sitting in fourth heading into the final turn, Phelps pulled ahead in the final meters, touching the wall in 51.00. Tom Shields also qualified in the event, finishing second in 51.20.When Phelps saw the 1 beside his name, he pounded the water and pointed toward his family -- including 7-week-old son, Boomer -- up in the stands.Overall, he made it three-for-three in Olympic qualifying at the trials.Missy Franklin will get the chance to defend her 200-meter backstroke gold medal in Rio after finishing second on Saturday in the event final at the U.S. Olympic swimming trials.Joining Franklin is Maya Dirado, who won the final (2:06.90) after gaining a comfortable lead midway through the race.Franklin, who finished in 2:07.89, won gold and set the world record in the event four years ago in London. As a high schooler during those games, she took part in seven events, winning four golds and a bronze. She finished fifth in the 100 free in 2012 but wont be part of that race at all this time around. At age 21, Franklin hasnt been able to recapture the magic that carried her to such heights in London. Outside of a gutsy runner-up finish in the 200 freestyle, she finished seventh in the 100 backstroke -- a race she won in 2012 -- and that knocks her out of consideration for the 4x100 medley relay. One of the things Ive been trying to do this whole year is not compare myself to where I was in 2012, Franklin said. I think coming in a lot of people thought that ... I would have to do the same thing I did in 2012, and thats not what I came here intending to do. I came in here to be the best of who I am right now, not who I was four years ago. So to get two individual spots and a relay spot, Im so happy with that.Katie Ledecky also added to her Rio itinerary by qualifying for the 800-meter freestyle. For 32-year-old Cullen Jones, a quarter-of-a-second brought potentially the end of a career.Jones finished third behind Nathan Adrian and Anthony Ervin in the 50-meter freestyle on Saturday night, ensuring that he wont be part of the team the U.S. will take to Rio in August. After the race, Jones was the last one out of the pool. He lifted himself onto the pool deck and responded to the cheering fans by raising his arms high above his head. He admitted the outcome was extra frustrating, as he had put everything he had into making the Rio team. And to do that and not get the outcome you were looking for his tough, Jones said, though he added that he does plan on watching both the 50- and 100-meter freestyle races in Rio on TV.?Its going to hurt like hell, but Ill be watching, he said. Wouldnt miss it.Information from ESPNs Wayne Drehs and the Associated Press was used in this report.Adidas Continental 80 Dames . -- Jaye Marie Green shot a 4-under 68 on Thursday to increase her lead to five strokes after the second round of the LPGA Tours qualifying tournament. Adidas NMD Belgie . It was hard for Luck to pull off another comeback, or even get into the end zone, while standing on the sideline. Rivers threw a 22-yard touchdown pass to rookie Keenan Allen and Nick Novak kicked four field goals to give the Chargers a 19-9 victory against the Colts on Monday night. http://www.nmdbelgie.com/kopen-adidas-nmd-heren-sale/nmd-xR1-heren.html . -- Claudio Bieler hadnt scored since early September, and not from the run of play since mid-July. Adidas Zx 4000 4d Kopen . Kozun faked to the forehand and beat Monsters starter, Calvin Pickard, pad side in the second round for the winner. Spencer Abbott also scored in the shootout for the Marlies (25-13-4). Adidas NMD R2 Heren . Isner, ranked No. 14, won his eighth career singles title and took the title in New Zealand for the second time after his victory in 2010. The match was similar to Isners quarterfinal victory over fifth-seeded Philipp Kohlschreiber which went to three sets, all tiebreaks and contained no breaks of serve.WASHINGTON -- Washington right-hander Max Scherzer will start Tuesday against the Arizona Diamondbacks with a chance to win 20 games this season. He is 18-7 in his second season with the Nationals but Scherzer will also be tuning up for a postseason start, something he did not get to do in his first season in Washington.Scherzer, if he stayed on schedule, would pitch Sunday in the regular-season finale at home against the Miami Marlins. And five days later he would be ready to pitch Game 1 of the National League Division Series against the Los Angeles Dodgers. You are getting your workload in, Scherzer said Monday of his approach to getting ready for the playoffs. The consistency, pitching at your best is vital.Scherzer won 8-3 in Arizona on Aug. 3 in his only outing against the Diamondbacks this year. The St. Louis native made his big league debut in 2008 with Arizona. In his last outing in Miami, Scherzer went 6 2/3 innings and gave up three runs. The Nationals have clinched the National League East title while the last-place Diamondbacks are trying to play spoiler. They did so Monday with a 14-4 win as Washington tries to nail down the second-best record in the league.Arizona, which was swept by playoff hopeful Baltimore over the weekend, will send rookie Matt Koch to the mound on Tuesday in Washington.Let see what he can do against a really good team, said Chip Hale, the Arizona manager. The Diamondbacks could have pitched Patrick Corbin on Tuesday. But Hale said the organization has been pleased with Corbin, who has made 24 starts. We feel excited about what Patrick has donee, Hale said.ddddddddddddKoch has made five appearances out of the bullpen as a rookie this year for Arizona and is 1-1 with a 1.29 ERA. Hale said he hopes Koch can go at least 75 pitches.Hale said the Diamondbacks brain trust wanted a chance to see Koch make a start before the year ended. Hale said Monday that Koch could also start the regular-season finale on Sunday. That most likely means the season is over for veteran right-hander Zack Greinke, who has had shoulder woes.It would be hard for me to believe he would start Sunday, Hale said of Greinke. Why push it at this point.Washington clinched the East title on Saturday. They are a really good team, Hale said of the Nationals. You get to test your players. It is a team that will play in October. The Nationals, who lost Bryce Harper to a thumb injury Sunday, got more bad news Monday when catcher Wilson Ramos left the game in the top of the sixth inning with a right knee injury. Baker said an MRI will be done on Tuesday. He does not look too good tonight, Baker said. You could tell he was in pain. There is a little concern when you lose a guy of that caliber. I feel badly.Baker said X-rays came back negative on Harper. The Nationals are also without MVP candidate Daniel Murphy and right-handed starter Stephen Strasburg. Baker feels Murphy will be ready for the playoffs but that is far from certain for Strasburg. Nobody is going to feel sorry for you, Baker said. Next man up. It is another obstacle. ' ' '
