Friday marks 20 years since Kevin Keegans I will love it rant and two decades on, it remains one of the Premier Leagues most unforgettable moments. Back on April 29, 1996, Keegans Newcastle side won 1-0 at Leeds to close to within three points of leaders Manchester United with a game in hand and two to play.Keith Gillespies goal gave them their third victory in a row and talk among supporters on their way home would likely have been about the exciting end to the campaign which lay ahead. That was, of course, until Keegan gave his post-match thoughts to Sky Sports. Before the game, Old Trafford manager Alex Ferguson had suggested the likes of Nottingham Forest might not try as hard against Keegans men as they did against his side.Newcastle were due at the City Ground three days later to play a team who, curiously, United had just beaten 5-0. Newcastle were also providing the opposition for Stuart Pearces Forest testimonial later the same year.Yet Keegan took the bait and if you ask football followers for their outstanding memory from that campaign, most will tell you of his remarkable reaction in the aftermath of that win at Elland Road.Referring to Fergusons comments, Keegan said: When you do that with footballers like he said about Leeds - and when you do things like that about a man like Stuart Pearce...Ive kept really quiet but Ill tell you something, he went down in my estimations when he said that. We have not resorted to that. Keegan made his comments after Keith Gillespies goal gave Newcastle a 1-0 win at Leeds You can tell him now, were still fighting for this title and hes got to go to Middlesbrough and get something - and Ill tell you, honestly, I will love it if we beat them. Love it.It really has got to me. Ive voiced it live, not in front of the press or anywhere. Im not even going to the press conference but the battle is still on and Man United have not won this yet. 20 years on from Kevin Keegans iconic rant, David Beckham discusses the impact it had on the Manchester Utd changing room Alas, that would soon change as, in the culmination of an apparently masterful bout of mind games, Newcastle were held to a 1-1 draw by Forest. They recorded the same score against Tottenham and with United duly going to Middlesbrough and winning 3-0, they took the title by four points after Newcastle had led by 12 at one stage. Manchester United went on to claim the Premier League title in 1996 As you can see in the video at the top of the page, Keegans rant is by no means the only one we have seen from English-based managers over the years. This Saturday marks a year since former Leicester manager Nigel Pearson called reporter Ian Baker an ostrich in response to a question asking him to specify what criticism his team had taken.Roy Keane was unamused when a journalists phone began ringing during a news conference while he was in charge of Ipswich in 2009.Ron Atkinson also wasnt happy when he was asked how Coventry could get out of relegation trouble in the same season as the Keegan flashpoint. Rafa Benitez launched a famous facts rant while at Liverpool Who could forget Rafa Benitezs facts rant - he only actually used the word fact six times over several minutes - in response to Fergusons claims Liverpool could choke in the 2008/09 season? And then there was Jose Mourinhos minute 30, 33, 43, 69 interview, when he refused to discuss moments he felt aggrieved by following Chelseas 1-1 draw with Burnley last season.Mourinhos relationship with Arsene Wenger is a strained one and the Frenchman objected to Sky Sports News HQ reporter Andy Burton suggesting he was under more pressure than his rival.Paolo Di Canios outburst at his own fans when he was Swindons manager was as extraordinary as anything. He said he would give them their season ticket money back and said they should go to watch neighbours Oxford if they were unhappy following his row with goalkeeper Wes Foderingham.Louis van Gaal, meanwhile, produced a dossier to dispel Sam Allardyces assertion his Manchester United team were a long-ball side following a 1-1 draw with West Ham in February last year.Click the video at the top of the page to relive all of these moments as some of the countrys most well-known managers lose their cool! Aasta OConnor reckons shell be retired by the time the AFL womens league turns professional. But the Western Bulldogs star says theres no limit on what the next generation of female footballers can achieve as the fledgling competition prepares for its first season. The AFL on Thursday unveiled a revamped pay deal for the leagues participants following a backlash against the original offer. The minimum wage for players covering a 22-week period - which includes seven rounds of home and away games and the grand final - has been lifted by 70 per cent from $5000 to $8500 in 2017.Its still a far-cry from the lucrative packages on offer to the nations elite netballers, who are subject to 12-month contracts, are covered by private health insurance and earn a minimum wage of $27,375.But OConnor hopes the deal sets the ground for a competition which will survive and thrive well into the future. It has to be sustainable, she said.Id hate for a 10-year-old girl in eight years time, when shes eligible forr the draft, for the AFL not to exist.dddddddddddd I understand we start somewhere and build up.I think it was back in the mid-90s that the male players were still part-time and had jobs outside of football. Ill probably be too old - Im just the right side of 30 - but (hopefully) opportunities exist for people after their careers are finished on the field as well.Priority signings and top draft picks will earn $12,000, up from $10,000, while the 16 marquee players also get a $2000 increase to $27,000 under the improved deal nutted out between the AFL and the players association. The deal also covers football boots and runners, an interstate travel allowance, income protection insurance, out-of-pocket medical expenses and childcare for mothers of infants. ANKARA, Turkey -- Fenerbahce will enter the Champions League on Friday despite its UEFA ban for match-fixing after winning an emergency ruling from the Court of Arbitration for Sport. The Turkish club said in a statement to the Istanbul stock exchange on Thursday it was cleared to take part in the third qualifying round draw. "The execution of the two-year ban from UEFA competitions given to our club by the UEFA (appeal) committee has been suspended by CAS," Fenerbahce said. CAS, which registered the Istanbul clubs appeal against UEFA on Wednesday, said all parties agreed to freeze sanctions until the full appeal verdict. "It is anticipated that hearings will take place in August with a final decision being issued before Aug. 28," the court said in a statement. That schedule gives CAS until the eve of the Champions League draw in Monaco -- though Fenerbahce needs to beat two opponents to reach that elite 32-team stage alongside the likes of Barcelona, Real Madrid, Manchester United and Bayern Munich. "This struggle will continue until the end and both the whole of Turkey and the world will see that Fenerbahce is in the right," president Aziz Yildirim told the clubs television station. The case continues fallout from a widespread match-fixing scandal which has rocked Turkish football for two years, and brought Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan -- a Fenerbahce fan -- into the politics of UEFA and the Turkish Football Federation. UEFA expelled Fenerbahce from its competitions last month after judging that club officials fixed matches to win the 2011 Turkish league title. UEFA rules bar clubs if they are connected to fixing matches played since April 2007. Fenerbahce finished runner-up in the Turkish Super League last season to earn a preliminary-round place. League champion Galatasaray will advance direct to the group stage, which is worth at least 10 million euros ($13.09 million) in UEFA prize money and television rights payments to each Turkish club advancing. Still, Fenerbahce could yet be removed from Europes signature club competition even after playing matches. In August 2011, the Turkish federation -- reportedly under pressure from UEFA -- withdrew Fenerbahce the day before the Monaco draw. Then, runner-up Trabzonspor was restored by UEFA into the group stage even though it had already been eliminated in the qualifying rounds. Fenerbahce officials, including Yildirim, deny wrongdoing and are appealing their criminal convictions in national courts. In a second case Thursday, CAS cleared Beziktas to enter the Europa League draw ahead of its full appeal hearing next month against expulsion. UEFA ruled that Beziktas officials helped fix the teams 2011 Turkish Cup final win. ARLINGTON, Texas -- Midway through the second quarter Sunday, down 7-0 following two straight penalties by his talk-of-the-NFL offensive line, Dallas Cowboys quarterback Dak Prescott faced a first-and-30 at his own 28 and thought he was in pretty good shape. It might actually be easier at that point, the unflappable rookie said a couple hours later. You know, your mentality is just to get a little bit at a time, check it down and let your guys do what they do. When you can just focus on the next play, the next throw, trust the guys around you to make the blocks ... thats when it gets fun.A 12-yard Prescott scramble, a 12-yarder to Dez Bryant on the skinny post, a 41-yard bomb to Brice Butler on the sideline, and the first-and-30 was a memory. The Cowboys first touchdown of the game was moments away. Their ninth straight win was in motion. No ones having more fun right now than Prescott & Co.The game Sunday against the Baltimore Ravens and their top-ranked defense was a potential pothole on the Cowboys improbable road to the postseason. Baltimore had a plan for the Cowboys dazzling rookies. They were going to plug up the middle with Brandon Williams and the big guys on their defensive line, cutting things off for Ezekiel Elliott. They were going to blitz off the edges and rattle Prescott. The Cowboys knew it was coming, and they knew it was going to be rough.I wouldnt say we were specifically looking forward to it, Elliott said.Whats amazing about Sunday, as the latest chapter in a season not even the most starry-eyed Cowboys fan saw coming, is that Baltimore did what it set out to do. It?limited Elliott to 26 yards on six carries in the first half. It rattled Prescott, who was admittedly off with several throws early in the game. The Ravens wanted to be tough and physical and mean with the Cowboys, and they did just that. They had the Cowboys kryptonite, and they were using it effectively. The Cowboys beat them anyway.I knew we were going to wear them down because we have a physical team too, and we believe in our physicality, Prescott said. Theyre physical. I give them credit for that. They came out and shut our run game down early on. But we believe in our physicality. The Cowboys self-belief is something to behold. They didnt care that the Ravens were smothering them early. They didnt care that Elliott couldnt get it going. They absolutely knew they were going to dominate the second half, and dominate it they did, possessing the ball for a ludicrous 20:09 of 30 second-half minutes and choking off any hope the Ravens had of ending the leagues longest win streak.Baltimore is the kind of team that should give the Cowboys trouble. The Cowboys took their best shot and shrugged it off. They definitely didnt become unstoppable, Ravens linebacker C.J. Mosley said. We played top--down defense in the passing game.dddddddddddd And they do checkdowns, like 10 yards per pop. Its kind of hard. You dont want to give up the big play, and they check it down.Relentlessly. Over and over again. As if they dont care what kind of kryptonite you brought. The most incredible thing about what Dallas is doing is that its leaning so hard on the rookies. Defenses are supposed to be able to rattle rookies and get them off their game. But Elliott and Prescott dont rattle. They believe.I never get antsy, said Elliott, who rushed 25 times for 97 yards and was held under 4.0 yards per carry for the first time since his Week 1 NFL debut. Because I know were going to get into the fourth quarter and run the ball, no matter what. They were keying on the run early on, and you saw we were struggling a little bit, but its a four-quarter game.Perspective from rookies. Confidence from rookies. Total faith from rookies -- in their linemen, their coaches and the entire group around them. Thats the way you win when you build around rookies. You convince them theyre in control. You make it clear to the rookie quarterback that its his team, even now that Tony Romo is in uniform on the sideline for the first time all season. You get the rookies to buy into the idea that sticking to the plan will work, no matter how it feels throughout the first quarter and deep into the second. Then you pile up wins as proof, and theres basically no stopping you.Logic says someone will beat these Cowboys again. The Dallas defense doesnt scare anyone, which is why keeping it off the field for two-thirds of the second half is such a brilliant plan. The offense doesnt generate a lot of big plays (perhaps simply because it doesnt need to). Rookies always get tired as the season goes along, and there are six games left in this Cowboys season, the first of which is four days away. Logic says theres a hiccup looming somewhere. But logic said the Cowboys would have a hard time with the Ravens on Sunday. And they kind of did. And they won?kind of?easily anyway. The Ravens wanted to beat this team, giddy owner Jerry Jones said. We hadnt beaten them since theyve been the Ravens. It was all there for them to come here and set us back. That makes it all the more impressive to get the win. Thats a top NFL franchise that we beat today. Im impressed.Watching the Cowboys every week, its hard to not be. Since the Giants won by a point in Week 1, no team has shown that the Cowboys can be beaten. Baltimore had a plan and executed it and lost anyway. If theres any kryptonite out there for these Cowboys, its going to have to be different stuff than what the Ravens brought Sunday. That didnt work. ' ' '

ANN ARBOR, Mich. -- After 10 minutes, Michigan had already made five 3-pointers, and when halftime arrived, the number was up to nine.By the time the game ended, the Wolverines had set a school record from beyond the arc. Two of them, in fact.We knew they were going to play a matchup 2/3 zone going into the game, so we knew we were going to have a lot of opportunities to have open 3s, Michigans Zak Irvin said. Thats what were known for -- kind of a zone buster-type team.Irvin scored 16 points, and Michigan made a school-record 19 3-pointers in a 97-53 rout of Central Arkansas on Tuesday night. The Wolverines also set a school record with 45 attempts from 3-point range, easily handling that zone.Michigan (8-3) even made its first 11 field goal attempts from inside the arc -- its first miss from there didnt come until early in the second half.Jordan Howard scored 14 points for Central Arkansas (1-9). The Bears have played only one home game all season.I didnt think that we came out with the focus and energy, Central Arkansas coach Russ Pennell said. This is our Super Bowl. If you cant get excited playing at a place like this and against this type of competition, you dont need to be playing Division I basketball. So were trying to change a culture, and sometimes youve got to get your backside kicked pretty good in order to get their attention.Moe Wagner had 18 points and seven rebounds for Michigan. Muhammad-Ali Abdur-Rahkman scored 14 points and Duncan Robinson added 12. Irvin, Abdur-Rahkman and Robinson made four 3-pointers each. The Wolverines broke the school record of 17 3-pointers in a game when Ibi Watson connected from the left wing with 3:58 to play. By then, Michigan had gone deep into its bench. The previous school record for 3-pointers came against Bryant on Dec. 23, 2015, and the record for attempts was 42, set Dec. 22, 2008 against Florida Gulf Coast.BIG PICTURECentral Arkansas: The Bears have played a tough schedule, and games like this are about trying to show improvement. In that sense, it may have been beneficial for Central Arkansas to test its zone against Michigans sharp shooters -- but that matchup didnt make for a particularly competitive game.Michigan: The Wolverines were coming off a 102-84 loss at UCLA. They did as they pleased offensively against Central Arkansas with little resistance from the Bears, and Michigan can be fairly happy with its defense in the first half, when the Wolverines allowed only 20 points.PLEASEDMichigan coach John Beilein often goes out of his way to compliment opponents. That was a tough sell after his team routed Central Arkansas so easily, but he pointed out that the Bears took Arkansas-Little Rock down to the wire. Also, their loss at Butler earlier this month was reasonably competitive until the last 10 minutes. We caught them at the right time, Beilein said. Weve got a lot of guys who can make shots from the outside, so a zone sometimes can be a tough defense to play against us, and our kids really played well.TOUGH ROADBeilein was also happy about how his team played coming off the long trip back from the game at UCLA on Saturday. Were in exams, too, Beilein said. We had three papers due today.UP NEXTCentral Arkansas: The Bears return home to face in-state rival Arkansas State on Friday night.Michigan: The Wolverines continue an easier stretch of their schedule with a home game against Maryland-Eastern Shore on Saturday.---More AP college basketball: www.collegebasketball.ap.org and https://twitter.com/AP-Top25 .---Follow Noah Trister at www.Twitter.com/noahtrister Nick Buoniconti Jersey . PITTSBURGH -- A late-game turnover by rookie wide receiver Tyler Boyd in the Cincinnati Bengals 24-16 loss to the Steelers on Sunday was the correct call, according to NFL senior vice president of officiating Dean Blandino.Boyd lost the football while attempting to secure a catch with the Bengals driving in an attempt to tie the game at the two-minute warning. Several Bengals, including Boyd, thought his knee hit the ground before the ball came out.Because the call on the field was a fumble, there wasnt enough evidence to overturn it, Blandino said in a video on his Twitter account. Were looking at two things here: Were looking first at whether this is a catch. Control with two feet, starts to turn upfield, tucks the ball away, we do have a catch, Blandino said.He continued: The second part were looking at is whether that right knee is down before the ball starts to come loose. You can see on the live shot, its not definitive. You can see the knee down; you cant tell if the ball was loose based on this angle.Bengals coach Marvin Lewis said after the game that he was told by officials that Boyd was down before the call was reviewed and upheld. They didnt see it that way overall, so thats all tthat matters, Lewis said.ddddddddddddBlandino said the evidence must be clear and obvious to overturn the initial ruling. It was close, he said, but not enough to change the call under review. We get several replays, and here you can see the knee was down but you cant see the football, Blandino said. You can see the knee here, but the problem is were blocked from seeing the football by the defenders legs.Blandino said video showed Boyds knee and the football coming down simultaneously, which didnt allow the call to be overturned. If its not clear and obvious the call on the field is incorrect, then the call will stand, he said. Just as that knee hits, the ball may start coming loose. Its extremely close, [but] the ruling on the field stands. The fumble tarnished a day in which Boyd caught six passes for 78 yards. It just hurts so bad, because you practice and perform and do ball security and things like that, Boyd said. You practice everything so much day by day. You just feel like it cant happen on game day. But were all human. ... That right there just crushed me. ' ' '

RIO DE JANEIRO -- The split between Olympic leaders and global anti-doping officials over the Russian doping scandal continues to escalate. The World Anti-Doping Agency fired back on Monday, a day after International Olympic Committee president Thomas Bach suggested the agency was to blame for the last-minute chaos over the participation of Russian athletes in the Rio de Janeiro Games.Bach said the agency should have acted sooner on evidence of state-sponsored doping rather than release the damning report by Canadian investigator Richard McLaren so close to the Games, which open on Friday. While it is destabilizing in the lead-up to the games, it is obvious, given the seriousness of the revelations that [McLaren] uncovered, that they had to be published and acted upon without delay, WADA president Craig Reedie, who is also an IOC vice president, said in a statement Monday. On Sunday, Bach defended the IOCs decision not to ban the entire Russian delegation from the Olympics, and said the IOC was not responsible for the timing of the latest WADA report, which came out on July 18.On July 24, the IOC placed the burden on international sports federations to determine if Russian athletes should be allowed to compete in Rio. More than 100 Russian athletes -- including the track and field team -- have been excluded, with more than 250 declared eligible by the federations so far.The IOC is not responsible for the timing of the McLaren report, Bach said. The IOC is not responsible for the fact that different information which was offered to WADA already a couple of years ago was not followed up. The IOC is not responsible for the accreditation or supervision of anti-doping laboratories.WADA -- which was created by the IOC in 1999 to lead the anti-doping fight, and receives half of its funding from the IOC -- issued a long statement defending its handling of the allegations against Russia.WADA understands that the timing of the McLaren Investigation Report has been destabilizing for a number of organizations as they prepare for the Rio Olympic and Paralympic Games, the statement said. However, WADA wishes to factually clarify that the agency acted immediately on allegations concerning Russia when it had corroborated evidence and the power to do so under the World Anti-Doping Code.WADA said it set up a commission headed by Dick Pound to investigate allegations of systematic doping made in a documentary by German broadcaster ARD in December 2014. The agency said it acquired new powers to investigate in January 2015.Pounds report, which was released in November 2015, detailed widespread cheating in track and field and led the IAAF to ban Russias entire team. Pound said he also found that doping in Russia was likely not restricted to track and field, and that Russian secret service officers were present in the Sochi and Moscow laboratories. But Pound said he did not uncover concrete evidence that the Russian government was manipulating doping controls.WADA said it acquired strong evidence of Russian state involvement in early May, when CBS 60 Minutes and The New York Times published allegations by Moscows former lab director, Grigory Rodchenkov. That led to McLarens investigation, which corroborated Rodchenkovs claims that dirty samples of Russian athletes were replaced with clean ones during the 2014 Winter Games in Sochi.Since then, WADA director general Olivier Niggli said, the agency facilitated the transfer of relevant information that is available to date about individual Russian athletes to the various international federations. It should be noted however that Professor McLarens focus thus far was on establishing involvement of the Russian State and not regarding individual athletes that may have benefited, Niggli said. WADA will continue supporting anti-doping organizations by providing information as and when it becomes available via McLarens ongoing Investigation.Responding to Bachs swipe about supervision of the Russian doping labs, WADA said its focus is on the technical abilities of the labs. It noted that it suspended the Moscow lab in 2015 after violations were cited in Pounds report.Addressing corruption within the anti-doping system -- including state or secret service interference in laboratory operations -- will be one of the topics discussed during a WADA conference in September, the agency said. BALTIMORE -- Baltimore Ravens tight end Dennis Pitta didnt just sprain a finger on his right hand in a scuffle during Monday nights practice.Pitta later took a verbal jab in the locker room, compliments of quarterback and supposed good friend Joe Flacco. He got his little baby injury that he always gets in camp and gets himself out of a week in camp, Flacco said with a big grin while looking at Pitta in the locker room. Thats better than breaking his hip, though.Pittas twice-fractured right hip can be a sore subject with him. But, apparently, Pitta is Flaccos favorite target on and off the field.I heard Joe say, Its a good thing he didnt break his hip again, which isnt that funny, Joe, Pitta said while cracking a smile.Pitta injured the finger -- his index and middle fingers were taped together -- during a fight with rookie linebacker Kamalei Correa. He described the injury as nothing serious.Flacco did stand up for Pitta and the offense a few plays later when he ran up to Correa after the linebacker delivered a hit on wide receiver Mike Wallace. When asked about Flaccos assertion that this is a ploy to get time off, Pitta said after a long pause, I have nothing to say about it. I will get some rest over the next couple of days.I wont miss much time, Pitta said. But obviously well have to bee cautious this time of the year and just make sure it fully heals so I can get back out there.ddddddddddddRavens coach John Harbaugh said, Its going to be a little while for him.The Ravens practice Monday night was the most intense of training camp. There were a half-dozen scuffles during the 2 1/2-hour session, and it surprisingly included the usually mild-mannered Pitta.According to Pitta, he hadnt been in a fight since his college days more than seven years ago. He wouldnt specifically say what led to his altercation with Correa but indicated it started when there was after-the-whistle stuff that wasnt necessary. But Pitta said the issue has been resolved.Me and KC already talked about it, Pitta said. So, were good.Harbaugh thought it was a positive sign from Pitta.I like the fact that Pitta is out here making plays, and hes blocking people and hes getting after it, Harbaugh said.Pitta doesnt remember how he injured it in the melee. After Pitta confronted Correa, players from the offense and defense converged.I didnt feel it in the moment, Pitta said. It just felt like I jammed it. Then, we just took a look at it and it was just a little bit more than a jam. ' ' '

American swimmer Ryan Lochte said the fallout from his incident at the Rio de Janeiro Olympics has been dragged out way too long, speculating that people must be sick and tired of hearing about this.Lochte once again apologized for his actions in Rio during an interview Tuesday with ABCs Good Morning America. He stressed, however, that he thinks the coverage of the incident has been blown way out of proportion.I just want to move forward and want the whole world to move forward, Lochte said. Everybodys got to be sick and tired of hearing about this. I know I am. I just want to move forward.Lochte reiterated that he was still intoxicated when he initially told NBC earlier this month that a gun had been cocked and pointed at his forehead after an altercation at a gas station involving the 11-time Olympic medalist and three of his teammates.Lochte originally said that he and Jack Conger, Gunnar Bentz and Jimmy Feigen were robbed at gunpoint in a taxi by men with a police badge as they returned to the Olympic Village from a party Aug. 15. However, security video suggested the four actually faced security guards after vandalizing a gas station restroom.Lochte left Brazil shortly after the incident. Three days later, local authorities took Conger and Bentz off an airliner heading to the United States so they could be questioned about the robbery claim. They were later allowed to leave Brazil, as was Feigen, after he also gave testimony. Feigen, who initially stood by Lochtes testimony, was not charged. Were just trying to get this over with, Lochte said Tuesday. Its been dragged out way too long. The media has taken this to a whole new level.Weve been talking about this way too long. There are other issues the world needs to deal with. The story that dominated the headlines during the second week of the Olympics has resulted in a wave of negative backlash for Lochte, who has issued multiple apologies and has lost endorsements with four major sponsors, including Speedo and Polo Ralph Lauren. He also apologized Tuesday to his mother, who contacted multiple media outlets the morning after the incident, and Feigen, who donated $10,800 to a Brazilian charity as part of an agreement with a judge before being allowed to leave the country. The emotional part is the hardest thing, Lochte said. CINCINNATI -- For the better part of eight seasons, Jay Bruce was a model of stability and professionalism for the Cincinnati Reds organization. On Monday afternoon, Bruce was traded to the New York Mets in a deal designed to further the Reds rebuilding efforts. When Cincinnati begins a three-game series against the St. Louis Cardinals on Tuesday night, a No. 32 jersey will be conspicuously absent from the large locker on the far left-hand corner of the clubhouse.Over the past nine seasons, we couldnt have asked for a better person to represent our team, our city and Major League Baseball, both on and off the field, Reds general manager Walt Jocketty said in a statement.During these difficult last few months, he has answered questions about his future almost daily, while continuing to handle himself with the class and professionalism he has shown since the day we drafted him.In exchange for Bruce, Cincinnati acquired infielder Dilson Herrera and left-hander Max Wotell. Herrera, 22, originally was signed by Pittsburgh in 2010 and was acquired by the Mets in August 2013. Wotell, 19, was the Mets third-round pick in 2015.This was a very difficult trade for us to make because of how our fans, ownership and everyone in our organization feel about Jay, but we acquired two quality players who better fit the direction our organization is heading, Jocketty said.Herrera is considered one of the brightest young stars in the game today. Wotell fits in with the other good, strong arms weve been trying to stockpile in our minor league system. The Cardinals, who begin play Tuesday in second place in the National LLeague Central behind the Chicago Cubs, made a deal to bolster their bullpen at Mondays non-waiver trade deadline, acquiring lefty Zack Duke from the Chicago White Sox.ddddddddddddThe Reds and Cardinals will play six times over the next nine days, beginning with this weeks three-game set. Coming into Tuesdays series opener, St. Louis is 18-4 over the past 11 series at Great American Ball Park.Cincinnati will try to reverse that trend on Tuesday behind right-hander Dan Straily who went from a long reliever to being among the Reds most dependable starters.Opponents are hitting just .207 against Straily, who will make his first career start against St. Louis. He leads the Reds staff in innings pitched (122), strikeouts (97) and quality starts (12).The Cardinals counter with Adam Wainwright, who has overcome a rough start to the season to post a 1.77 ERA in July, which ranks ninth among all major league pitchers.St. Louis is 14-3 in his last 17 starts and has won six of his last seven road starts.Cincinnati has had success against Wainwright, however. His 4.44 ERA against the Reds is the second-highest against any opponent. Wainwright allowed two earned runs in six innings in a 3-2 win against them on June 9. On April 16, Cincinnati roughed him up with a season-high seven runs allowed.Hes been good, very good, St. Louis manager Mike Matheny said. The fastball execution has been very sharp here lately. The home version of the Detroit Pistons has been unbeatable in the early going. The road version has been awful.Unfortunately for the Denver Nuggets, they face the Pistons at The Palace on Saturday.Detroit has won its three home games by an average of 14.7 points. The Pistons are 0-2 on the road, including a 109-101 loss to the lowly-regarded Brooklyn Nets on Wednesday. The Nets racked up 71 first-half points and held off the Pistons late charge. They outplayed us for 48 minutes in every aspect of the game, Detroit coach Stan Van Gundy said. Every game is a new game and we brought nothing to the table defensively and we couldnt guard anybody, so of course its disappointing. Not surprisingly, the Pistons tend to play a lot better when their All-Star center makes a big impact. Andre Drummond averaged 13.7 points and 18.7 rebounds in the home victories. He had just six points and six rebounds in 25 minutes at Brooklyn before Van Gundy benched him most of the second half.We gave him the first half and the first seven minutes in the second half and he was just, in my opinion, bringing absolutely nothing to the game, Van Gundy said. I dont know if he was tired or what the deal was, but he didnt bring any energy to the game.Denver got off to a lethargic start in its last game and trailed Minnesota by 12 after the first quarter. The Nuggets (2-2) took the lead by outscoring the Timberwolves 33-14 in the third quartter, then hung on for a 102-99 victory on Thursday.ddddddddddddThat makes the Nuggets 1-1 on their current five-game road trip but coach Michael Malone was not impressed. We need everybody ready to play, starting in Detroit, Malone told the Denver Post. Spotting teams the leads were spotting them -- 15 points, 19 points in Toronto -- were always playing uphill, were always playing catch-up and thats not a good way to play. The reserves bailed out the Nuggets by outscoring the Timberwolves bench 45-23.We just lucked up and got the win, but weve got to learn how to play for 48 minutes, second-year point guard Emmanuel Mudiay said to the Denver Post. Thats the main thing. It seems like the third quarter is the biggest quarter where we come out and jump on teams. Weve got to figure out how to play like that for the whole game. The Nuggets backcourt has been thinned by injuries. Gary Harris sat out Thursdays game with a strained right groin while swingman Will Barton has a sprained left ankle. Theyre questionable to play against the Pistons.Detroit is trying to survive the first few weeks of the season without starting point guard Reggie Jackson, who is recovering from knee tendinitis. The Nuggets swept the two-game series last season, winning 104-101 at home and 103-92 at The Palace. Stitched Avalanche Jerseys . Ryan Garbutt had a goal and two assists as Dallas snapped a six-game losing streak with a 5-2 victory over the Edmonton Oilers on Tuesday night. It was an entertaining Wednesday afternoon at Shaw Park. At least, for the first three and a half hours. Thats about the time the Laredo Lemurs exploded for five runs in the 11th inning to put a halt to the party - and a Goldeyes series sweep. Sawyer Carroll hit a three-run homer off rookie Winnipeg reliever Wes Alsup in the 11th and that was the exclamation point on an afternoon in which Laredo outhit the Goldeyes 20-14 and outscored them 13-8. With the win, Laredo put a halt to a two-game losing streak in Winnipeg. They also dashed the Goldeyes hopes of a series sweep. Laredo is now 11-2 on the season, first in the American Associations South Division. The Goldeyes fell to 10-3, still first in the North Division. "A lot of offence, baby," said Rick Forney after the game. "We just didnt have much choice with the bullpen today. We just ran out of bullets. "They got to Justin (starter Garcia) today. They did a good job and had some good at bats. I thought we swung the bat real well and some of guys really started to produce some offence today. For the most part the bullpen was good today. We got six solid innings out of the bullpen, but then we had to put Wes in a tough spot in the 11th. When we failed to score in the seventh with the bases loaded and one out, that really set us back." This game was a slugfest, almost from the opening pitch. In the top of the first, Laredos leadoff man Marcos Rodriguez doubled and eventually came around to score on a double by John Allen. The Goldeyes tied it in the bottom of the first on a solo homer by Leonard Davis and thats how most of the afternoon went: One team would take a lead and the other would tie it.dddddddddddd After the Lemurs scored two in the top of the second, the Goldeyes scored three in the bottom of the second. Laredo took a 5-4 lead in the top of the third, but the Goldeyes made it 6-5 in the bottom of the third as Tim Smith and Luis Alen drove in runs. Laredo tied it at 6-6 in the top of the fourth and then took a 7-6 lead in the top of the fifth, but Alen drove in Casey Haerther with a run in the bottom of the fifth to tie the game at seven apiece. Laredo went ahead 8-7 in the seventh, but Fehlandt Lentini led off with a solo homer in the eighth and the teams were tied at eight. From there, the bullpens took over until the 11th when the Lemurs scored five times off Alsup. Alen was the hitting hero for the Goldeyes with four hits on five trips, a run scored and two driven in. Alen is now hitting .378. Davis went three-for-six with two runs scored and an RBI while Lentini went two-for-six with a homer, a run scored and two RBI and Smith went two-for-five with a run scored and one driven in. Carroll, who put the game on ice with that three-run blast in the 11th, went four-for-seven with a run scored and three driven in. Mike Sheridan had four hits in six trips, scored three and drove in one. Alsup (0-1, 14.54 ERA) was the losing pitcher for Winnipeg, while Bradley Blanks (2-0, 0.96 ERA) got credit for the win. The Goldeyes will have a day off on Thursday before they welcome their archrivals, the Fargo-Moorhead RedHawks to Shaw Park on Friday night for a 7:05 p.m. start. ' ' '

A snapshot of round 11 in the A-League.THEY SAID IT - I smashed chairs. The bin. The rubbish bin. Maybe some doors. I really smashed everything to relax a little bit. I wanted it too much. I wanted to score too early. I had to smash some stuff inside and then I was fine. It was relieving, Melbourne Victory striker Besart Berisha revealed how he changed his outlook in the half-time break of the Melbourne derby before scoring the winner.STAT THAT MATTERS - As they showed with a 4-1 smashing of Perth Glory, theres just no stopping Sydney FC. They boast a winning record (8 wins, three draws) that no A-League team has ever matched at this stage of the season. In fact, only two teams in Australian football history - Marconi in 1978 and Adelaide City in 1994/95 - have matched that record. Worth noting though that neither of those sides won their leagues.MAN OF THE ROUND - Lets celebrate Berisha when he beats - not ties - Archie Thompsons all-time goalscoring record and instead praise Brandon Santalab. The Wanderers strikers piece of invention to open the scoring against Wellington was remarkable and if it wasnt for a certain Tim Cahill special earlier this season, would contend for goal of the year. Shame the Wanderers would blow their 2-0 lead for a 2-2 draw in Auckland.SAFEST HANDS - Sydney FC goalkeeper Danny Vukovic was best afield in the Sky Blues 4-1 win on Saturday night. The best of his efforts was a one-handed save to deny Rostyn Griffiths in the second half when the match was in the balance.CONTROVERSY CORNER - No one at Melbourne City had any complaints with Besart Berishas marginal winner, so its Morten Nordstrands last-gasp goal in focus. The Jets were 2-1 winners thanks to the late strike, which the Dane said he thought hed be flagged for. It was play on and therefore game on for Mark Jones men, who have now won two on the trot.UNDER PRESSURE - Two wins in the opening 11 rounds isnt good news for Wanderers boss Tony Popovic. And Kenny Lowe cant be happy with back-to-back home losses that has Perths finals hopes on the rack. But Adelaide coach Guillermo Amor is again feeling the most strain of A-League coaches after a last-gasp defeat. They host league leaders Sydney next Saturday night. Despite a number of driver complaints about tyres Vettel refused to use that as an excuse for Ferraris pace.Today was a tricky day, very slippery, Vettel said. Its very hot. I dont think it matters what tyres you have, its slippery for everyone. Well see, we have to improve our car. Its not where we want to be.The FP2 result must be judged with the knowledge Mercedes did not venture on to the super-soft tyre - this weekends fastest compound - in FP2. The team allso focused Lewis Hamilton primarily on long runs, aimed at perfecting his race set-up, in the knowledge he is set for a big grid penalty on Sunday following an engine change.ddddddddddddWhen asked if that penalty increased Ferraris chances of a first win of 2016, Vettel replied: I dont know how far he is starting back from ... Its quite warm for Spa. I think everyone was struggling to make the tyres last, I was sliding a lot.At least the cars I saw were struggling a lot, which is a bit of a shame but its the same for everyone. We will try and work on that. The competitiveness is difficult to say, I dont think everyone had clear runs. its difficult to judge. ' ' '

Mississippi States lopsided loss to Auburn last weekend was an eye-opener for all the wrong reasons. The Bulldogs couldnt move the ball on offense, couldnt stop Auburns power running game and also struggled on special teams.By halftime, Mississippi State had fallen into a 35-0 hole and finished with a 38-14 loss in front of half-empty Davis-Wade Stadium that was certainly one of the lowest points of coach Dan Mullens eight-year tenure at the school. But Mullen isnt in the mood to feel sorry for himself or his team. Mississippi State (2-3) has a short week to prepare for a road game against BYU (3-3) on Friday night. We have faced all kinds of highs and lows in the eight years that I have been here, Mullen said. Ill be honest with you, when you deal with a high, you get back to work. When you deal with a low, you get back to work. And theres plenty of work to be done -- starting with Fridays game against the Cougars -- if Mississippi State wants to make a bowl game for a seventh straight season. BYU is coming off an impressive 31-14 win over Michigan State.Mississippi State needs better play from plenty of people, starting with quarterback Nick Fitzgerald. The sophomore was 17 of 34 passing 181 yards, two touchdowns and an interception against Auburn. He also ran for a team-high 61 yards. But most of his good moments came in the second half when Auburn was already in control of the game.I think more than anything its just execution, Fitzgerald said. We had a good game plan going in but we didnt quite execute what we need to do.Fitzgerald could use some help, too. One promising play was when freshman Keith Mixon snagged a Fitzgerald pass close to the sideline, showed some nifty footwork to stay inbounds, and then ran 37 yards for a touchdown.Mullen said hes seeing a lot of good things on the field, but the Bulldogs are struggling to get 100 percent execution on a given play.If 11 guys do their job every play you have the opportunity to be successful, Mullen said. If 10 guys do their job the right way and one messes up or goes the wrong way, or doesnt use good technique or one of those things, your chance for success drops dramatically. The recent losses have been a jarring setback for a Mississippi State program that has improved dramatically in recent years. Just two years ago, the Bulldogs were the No. 1 team in the country for five straight weeks and a real threat to win the Southeastern Conferences Western Division. That doesnt appear to be the case these days. But Mullen insists his program hasnt lost momentum and has a great future ahead of it. Hes also not ready to give up on the current season. We have had some great years since I have been here, and we will have a lot more great years while Im here, Mullen said. COLUMBUS, Ohio -- Ohio State coach Urban Meyer has reason to feel a little unsettled as his team begins preparations for the 2016 season. He has to find replacements for his best offensive player, his best defensive player and other key parts of a squad that finished 12-1 last year and ranked No. 4 in the nation.Ezekiel Elliot, one of the best running backs in Buckeyes history, departed early for the NFL, as did defensive end Joey Bosa. Both were stalwarts in the 2014 national championship run and right on through last season. Just six starters from last year will be in camp this fall. The good news: Quarterback J.T. Barrett enters a season as the undisputed starter for the first time after taking over for Cardale Jones at mid-season last year. In 2014, Barrett led the Buckeyes to an 11-1 record before breaking his ankle in the Michigan game and giving way to Jones, who led the team to the national title.I anticipate he will be as good a quarterback as weve had, Meyer said. Its his show and he knows it, and hes prepared.Middle linebacker Raekwon McMillan, a second-team All-American who was one of the Big Tens top tacklers, will anchor a defense with a ton of potential -- including Bosas little brother, Nick, an incoming freshman defensive lineman.Freshmen and other inexperienced players will see extensive playing time on both sides of the ball and must perform for the Buckeyes to have success. A true freshman might even start on the offensive line, an exceedingly rare occurrence at Ohio State. But that doesnt necessarily mean it will be a rebuilding year for the Buckeyes. For Meyer, a master recruiter, its always a matter of waiting for the next crop of All-Americans to come of age and take over the team.We have a lot of momentum here at Ohio State right now, he said. We cant lose it just because we lost some great players. Some things to watch as the season arrives:THE GROUND GAMEWith Elliott now in camp with the Dallas Cowboys, Ohio State enters fall practice without an established running back. The teams most experienced back, fifth-year senior Brionte Dunn, was dismissed last month for violating an unspecified team rule. That leaves redshirt freshman Mike Weber and true freshman Antonio Williams, both highly regarded prep players Meyer has raved about. Weber likely will be the starter, and look for H-back Curtis Samuel to get a share of the touches, too.ABOUT THOSE RECEIVERSOhio States three best receivers from 2015 are gone. The four players expected to step up as top pass-catchers -- Noah Brown, Corey Smith, Dontre Wilson and Samuel -- were recovering from injuries and didnt participate in spring practice, opening the door for youngsters like Terry McLaurin, Parris Campbell and Torrance Gibson, all of whom had their shining moments in the spring game. Meyer needs one of them to emerge as the guy who can consistently get open and catch the deep ball.KEY GAMESSept. 17 at Oklahoma; Oct. 15 at Wisconsin; Nov. 19 at Michigan State; Nov. 26 vs. Michigan.SEASON OPENERSept. 3 vs. Bowling Green: The Buckeyes may have to work up a sweat dispatching the Falcons, one of the Mid-American Conferences better teams. Its the first of two tuneup games Ohio State will play at home before traveling to Oklahoma for an early-season showdown.PREDICTIONDespite losing a lot of experienced players, the Buckeyes have the talent to remain among college footballs elite teams. BOSTON -- Lawyers for former New England Patriots star Aaron Hernandez asked a judge on Wednesday to prevent the jury at his upcoming double murder trial from hearing descriptions of the shooter from two witnesses who were inside a car prosecutors say Hernandez sprayed with bullets.Hernandez is scheduled to go on trial in February in the 2012 killings of two Boston men prosecutors allege he shot after an encounter at a nightclub. He is accused of following the men and then opening fire on their car after one of them accidentally bumped into him in the club and caused him to spill a drink.During a hearing in Suffolk Superior Court, defense attorney Jose Baez said the descriptions given by two other men in the car have changed over time, are unreliable and should be excluded from the trial.Theyre all over the place, said Baez, who is known for winning an acquittal for Casey Anthony in the death of her daughter during a highly publicized trial in 2011.Baez also said the mens descriptions changed after Hernandez was publicly identified as a suspect in the kkillings.ddddddddddddAssistant District Attorney Patrick Haggan opposed the defense request to exclude the witness descriptions and said Hernandezs lawyers can challenge them by cross-examining the witnesses.Baez asked for a hearing so he can call an expert to testify about eyewitness identification. The judge did not immediately rule on the request.Baez said Hernandezs defense team also is considering seeking to move the trial outside Boston, but no decision has been made.Hernandez is serving a life sentence after being convicted of murder in the 2013 killing of semi-professional football player Odin Lloyd, who was dating the sister of Hernandezs fiancee.Daniel de Abreu and Safiro Furtado were shot about six weeks before Hernandez, a tight end, signed a five-year, $40 million contract with the Patriots. He went on to catch 51 passes and score five touchdowns that season, his last in the NFL.Hernandez has pleaded not guilty. ' ' '

LOUISVILLE, Ky. -- Louisville is looking to develop some take-charge guys early this season, and several candidates are emerging.Freshman forward V.J. King scored 17 points and Deng Adel added 16, including eight during Louisvilles 10-0 run to close the first half, to help the 12th-ranked Cardinals pull away from William & Mary for a 91-58 victory Monday night.Louisville (2-0) initially struggled against the Tribes up-tempo style, going scoreless for 3:06 and allowing William & Mary to pull to 34-31 with 2:13 remaining in the first half. Adel took charge over the final 1:31 with five free throws and a 3-pointer just before the break during the spurt that gave the Cardinals some space.Coach (Rick Pitino) kept telling me to keep shooting it because once you get out of the slump, the shots are going to fall, said Adel, who went 4 of 9 from the field and made all seven free throws after scoring just six points in Louisvilles opener.Once you see the ball go in the basket, it helps your confidence.Louisville then outscored William & Mary 10-2 over the first 4 1/2 minutes of the second half to open a 54-33 lead, and held the Tribe without a basket for nearly 6 minutes.William & Mary coach Tony Shaver pointed to Louisvilles late first-half run as the turning point for his team. Our execution those last 2 minutes of the half was terrible and we paid the price for that, Shaver said. We hadnt played that well the first 18 minutes and its a three-point game, so you have to feel good about that. But that spurt there really changed the complexion of the game.King helped the Cardinals cruise home by hitting a couple of 3-pointers down the stretch. If we just all play together and find each other, we all get easy shots and open shots like we did tonight, said King, who also had just six points on Friday. All of us can score, so (opponents) have to pick and choose who they have to defend.Quentin Snider and Jaylen Johnson, who scored a team-high 19 points in Louisvilles opener, each added 13 for the Cardinals, who held William & Mary (1-1) to 23 percent shooting in the second half and 31 percent overall. Mangok Mathiang had 10 rebounds and Johnson nine as the Cardinals topped the Tribe 49-42 on the boards. We played terrific defense tonight, Pitino said. We did a really good job of putting the pressure on and not fouling.Omar Prewitt and Nathan Knight had 14 points apiece for the Tribe, who shot 6 of 29 from 3-point range in losing their first meeting with Louisville in 64 years.THE BIG PICTUREWilliam & Mary: One game after making a school-record 22 steals against Bridgewater, the Tribe managed just two against Louisville. More importantly, they committed 16 turnovers that led to 22 points.Louisville: The Cardinals shot 46 percent and saw some bright spots in their perimeter shooting. They went 6 of 12 from beyond the arc in the second half after going 4 of 16 in the first 20 minutes, which followed a 3-of-15 showing in the opener.RIM PROTECTORSMathiang, playing his second game since December because of a foot injury, had five of Louisvilles 11 blocks to match a career high set Feb. 14, 2015, against North Carolina State. Cardinals guard Donovan Mitchell had four blocks.ROUGH HOMECOMINGWilliam & Mary had two players from Kentucky in guard/forward and team captain Prewitt and forward Jack Whitman. Their returns began with promise before Louisville took over and left them with 17 combined points. We just didnt execute, and that was probably more us than them, Prewitt said. I wanted to come out and play well with a lot of family here, and I knew a lot of Louisville players. It was exciting to play here.POLL IMPLICATIONSThursdays home game against Long Beach State might have a bigger impact on Louisvilles ranking next week.UP NEXTWilliam & Mary: Hosts Presbyterian on Saturday.Louisville: Hosts Long Beach State on Thursday. LAS VEGAS -- Until this year, Miesha Tate seemed destined to spend her career in Ronda Rouseys shadow. She persevered for several years as the second-best fighter in her emerging sport, twice failing to stop Rouseys remarkable rise to stardom.Everything changed in the past few months after Tate finally got her break, choking Holly Holm unconscious to win the UFC bantamweight title. And then this week, she got a few more breaks. Thanks to Jon Jones positive drug test, Tate suddenly finds herself in the incredible position of fighting in the main event at the landmark UFC 200.Its such a great opportunity to deliver an excellent performance and really represent womens MMA, Tate said of the chance to fight on the main pay-per-view card. Thats what Im all about. I want to go out there and I want to defend my belt, and I want to make a statement that womens MMA is awesome.UFC 200 was absolutely stacked with stars even before Anderson Silva agreed to replace Jones on two days notice against Daniel Cormier. Nine current or former UFC champions are on the biggest pay-per-view show of the summer. But on a night also featuring Brock Lesnars return from a 4 1/2-month MMA absence and a tantalizing interim featherweight title bout between Jose Aldo and Frankie Edgar, Tates bantamweight title defense against Amanda Nunes has been promoted to the main event Saturday. UFC President Dana White said he wanted to show respect to Tate, the only undisputed champion risking her belt.I feel theres a lot pressure on me, but the thing that I really like about that is I know it, Tate said. I accept it, and I know that I thrive well under pressure.Just four months after winning the belt that Holm took from Rousey, Tate is on top of the 135-pound division at the moment it gets hit with mixed martial arts brightest spotlight. And then Tate (18-5) barely made weight Friday morning, desperately cutting ounces until she jumped on the scale moments before the deadline. After a few hours to hydrate, Tate was reinvigorated by the thought of fighting Nunes (12-4).Im going to go out there (Saturday) and Im going to rip her heart out of her chest and stomp on it, Tate said with a grin. Not much has come easy for Tate, but she perseveres. She picked up MMA in 2005 after a high schoool wrestling career, and she fought in a series of minor-league promotions for little more than pride.ddddddddddddTate fought Rousey in 2012 and 2013, losing by armbar both times. She seemed stuck -- unable to beat the biggest star in the sport, but better than just about everybody else. But Tate kept grinding and won her next five fights. When Holm thrashed Rousey, the star boxer seemed unbeatable -- but Tate beat her in March with patience and canny fighting skills, luring the superior striker into an inescapable choke. At 29, she was finally a champion.Tate has been enjoying the spoils of her title, appearing on Good Morning America and Conan. Yet she also turns down many more opportunities, including chances to add to her fledgling acting credits after appearing in a recent film.Tate is mindful of the way Rouseys public persona exploded shortly before Holm kicked her in the head and ended her title reign. You have to keep your eyes focused on the task at hand, Tate said. You have to ask yourself, `What do I really want? To me, the most important thing is to defend my belt. Its not making movies. If those things can fall into place in a time when it makes sense, then great. But in the middle of my training camp, youve just got to tell them no.Her current task is Nunes, a Brazilian veteran on a three-fight winning streak. Tate claims she was surprised when her next bout wasnt a rematch with Holm, but she accepted the matchup. She also hopes for a third fight with Rousey, who hasnt fought since losing in November and shows little indication that shes hungry to get back on the MMA grind.I would be disappointed if (Rousey) doesnt come back, if I dont get that opportunity, Tate said. There would be a void that didnt get filled. I hope thats not the case. But if it is, life goes on.UFC 200s pay-per-view card begins with heavyweights Cain Velasquez and Travis Browne. The undercard features former bantamweight champion T.J. Dillashaw, former welterweight champion Johny Hendricks and several other title contenders alongside surefire crowd-pleasing fights featuring Joe Lauzon, Diego Sanchez, Jim Miller and Takanori Gomi. BOURBONNAIS, Ill. -- Less than 24 hours after the Chicago Bears classified Alshon Jefferys latest health setback as muscle tightness, head coach John Fox conceded that the wide receiver is suffering from a mild hamstring injury, which kept him off the practice field on Thursday. We get concerned about everybody whether they are injured or not practicing, but on the other hand, we dont get too concerned, Fox said. Weve got guys to take their place. Were at 89 guys right now on the offseason roster. So, its part of camp.Although Fox sounded unfazed by the developments, earlier this year Jeffery chose to skip the clubs voluntary workout program at Halas Hall to independently train in South Florida. Jeffery previously said his decision to be away from the team was based mainly on his desire to overcome the assortment of lower-body soft-tissue injuries (calf, groin and hamstring) that cost him seven games in 2015.Jeffery still caught 54 passes for 807 yards and four touchdowns in the injury-plagued season, but concerns over his durability played into the Bears decision to forgo paying him like a top-five wide receiver in the offseason. Instead, Jeffery is playing the 2016 season under the franchise tag, which guarantees him $14.599 million on a one-year deal.Jeffery is officially day-to-day. TORONTO -- After playing eight of their past 10 games on the road, the Toronto Raptors open a season-long six-game homestand Monday against the Philadelphia 76ers.When the Raptors defeated the Bucks 105-99 Friday at Milwaukee, they finished their 10-game grind with a 6-4 record. On the road, youve been edgy, youve been uptight, youve got the you-against-the-world mentality, Toronto coach Dwane Casey said Sunday. Now you come home to the comforts of home and relax and we cant do that. Weve got some good teams coming in, the young, athletic Philly team coming in, Memphis is playing well, the Lakers are playing well and Atlanta. Its going to be a tough homestand, it wont be a piece of cake whatsoever. The homestand will end with games against the Cleveland Cavaliers and the Minnesota Timberwolves. The Raptors (10-6) are 4-3 at home and Philadelphia is 0-5 on the road this season. The 76ers (4-13) are coming off a 112-108 loss to the Cavaliers at the Wells Fargo Center on Sunday after leading for the first three quarters.Philadelphia center Joel Embiid, who is coming back from foot injuries that cost him the past two seasons, will not make the trip to Toronto after scoring 22 points with nine rebounds in 25 minutes on Sunday. We played hard, Embiid said. We had a good defensive game. They just played better. The game Monday will be the sixth he will have missed this season. The restriction in minutes and the skipping of some games fit in with his rehabilitation program. He also did not play in the 105-89 loss to the Chicago Bulls on Friday. You come up with some really hard decisions that maybe dont favor me or us or whatever, 76ers coach Brett Brown said. But for the long-term lens that we all have, we have to be responsible with Joel Embiid. Winning a game in the middle of November in 2016, sometimes that takes a back seat. The 76ers were without point guard Jerryd Bayless on Sunday because of a sore left wrist. Bayless, a former Raptor, missed the first 13 games of the season after suffering a torn ligament in the wrist during training camp. The free-agent acquisition played in only three games. Bayless said his wrist was sore when he played against the Bulls on Friday. The Raptors made a season-best 14 3-pointers against the Bucks and had double-digit scoring from six players. While the offense is working, the concern remains the defense.Weve got to be more conscious of letting teams get easy buckets, transition buckets, make everything a lot tougher on them, said Toronto guard DeMar DeRozan, who is averaging 30.2 points. Especially from the 3. Just be more disciplined. We cant have mistakes. Once we get clicking defensively and everything comes together as one, we have a chance to be really good.Improving the defense is constantly on Caseys mind.If we have to get guys in there that are going to be committed to the defensive end, weve got to do that because to get where we want to go, were kidding ourselves if were not committed to that end, Casey said.Forward DeMarre Carroll is improving as he returns from knee surgery and that should help the Raptors defense. He also scored 14 points on Friday.Thats what Ive got to do, Carroll said. Theyre double-teaming Kyle (Lowry) and DeMar (DeRozan). Ive got to be able to space the floor, especially in the first unit. Im just trying to do my part. I know at the beginning of the season I wasnt doing my part, but now Im trying to step up, and Im just trying to progress and not look back. The boys were at it again. There were about 10 of them on the blue mats and red mats in the old multipurpose room, the place where Rima Yacoub volunteers a few hours a week to teach kids in East Amman, Jordan, the sport of Brazilian jiu-jitsu.When I first started, I probably had 10 of the most difficult, hyperactive, underprivileged kids in Amman, Yacoub says.At every turn of her back, they would point fingers and make faces. But when Yacoub, a gold medalist in her category at the Abu Dhabi World Professional Jiu-Jitsu Championship in April, hit the mats to show off her moves, there was silence. The boys quickly realized their teacher was not messing around. Now they follow me everywhere I go, Yacoub says, smiling. They even ask me, Coach, can we carry your bags for you?A tall, muscular woman with a waterfall of reddish hair that she ties into a long braid for training, Yacoub is one of less than 10 Jordanian women competing professionally in jiu-jitsu, a grappling-based sport where opponents work to submit each other with a variety of chokeholds and joint locks.Yacoub became acquainted with jiu-jitsu in 2011. A lifelong athlete who previously played on Jordans national badminton team, she was weightlifting twice a day and looking to fit more cardio into her regimen. Convinced by a friend to try a kickboxing class at a small dojo near their homes, she saw the jiu-jitsu fighters on the other side of the mats pulling each other to the ground, choking each other into semiconsciousness, and afterward sharing a laugh like two kids who got away with fighting before their parents could catch them. There were no women in that class, but she and her girlfriends stepped up and gave it a shot together.I was hooked the moment I stepped onto the mats, Yacoub says. It was like I had never felt more powerful. The mats were a relief from everything else in my life -- a safe, stress-free place where it was only me and the person standing across from me.Aside from managing a competitive schedule that includes regular travel to Europe and throughout the Middle East, Yacoub is also the partnerships and communications officer for Ruwwad Al Tanmeya, a non-governmental organization that works to empower disadvantaged communities in Jordan, Palestine, Lebanon and Egypt through education and civic engagement. On an average weekday, she will be at the gym by 6 a.m. for weightlifting, then at work until 4:30 p.m., then mixing in kickboxing and jiu-jitsu until after 9 p.m.Rima is very special for how she is able to train as hard as she does and also take the time to make the community better, says Nasser Faouri, the main jiu-jitsu coach at The Source MMA in Amman, Jordan, where Yacoub trains. To the unfamiliar spectator, jiu-jitsu can look like two people in pajamas strangling each other on the ground, Faouri says. But even with a broken nose or fingers, Yacoub is still there at the gym, assisting with kids classes and welcoming new women with a smile and reassuring them that its more fun than it looks. While martial arts is growing in popularity in Amman, the city is culturally and developmentally divided. At times, the more privileged West Amman can seem worlds away from the daily realities of life in the East, where Yacoub crosses for work and to teach her own jiu-jitsu classes for Ruwwad. On one side of the city, its not uncommon to see women sign up for the gym and take martial arts classes together. In East Amman, it is a different story altogether. Thats where Yacoub is most determined to makee a difference.ddddddddddddIf somebody walks in Dabouq and then goes to Jabal Jofeh, they may not believe they are still in the same city, says Dana Al Emam, a reporter for The Jordan Times who has written about the disparities in the city.In the western part of the city, the buildings and streets are better maintained, public parks and entertainment facilities are more accessible, and schools offer extracurricular activities, including sports, that arent as available in East Amman. On a deeper level, the obvious gap in development nurtures a feeling of social injustice, Al Emam says. These injustices can give rise to the alternative opportunities that extremist groups might offer. A March 2016 report from UN Women made a direct connection between women victims of gender injustices with violent radicalization. This is the environment Yacoub knew she wanted to invest her time in when she was selected for the U.S. Department of State and espnW Global Sports Mentoring Program. For three weeks in October and November, she was mentored by Jill Hotchkiss, vice president of marketing and creative for Disney XD in Burbank, California. (Disney is the parent company of ESPN.)With her mentor, she worked on a plan to create a community center for girls and women to train jiu-jitsu and self-defense following her return to Jordan. At this center, women will not only receive sports training, but also be educated about the powerful correlation between sports and empowerment. These women will be the true guardians, Yacoub says. They are guarding their own futures and the futures of the ones they care about. While progress has been made in womens rights in Jordan, rates of domestic abuse and harassment remain high. According to 2012 research by Diab Al-Badeyneh, a Jordanian sociologist who conducted the first national survey on domestic violence, family violence is both widespread and culturally accepted, with roughly half of women experiencing abuse from childhood, and more than 70 percent believing that husbands have the right to punish members of the family with physical violence.I have a vision for an open and healthy community with zero domestic violence, Yacoub says. I believe we all have a responsibility to give back, a small change that can impact everything, and this is how I can make a difference. In jiu-jitsu, Yacoub has both won and lost. But a well-known saying from one of the sports legends, Carlson Gracie, says there is never really any losing in jiu-jitsu. You either win or you learn. In a European match before her Abu Dhabi performance, Yacoub was forced to tap to a submission in the last 25 seconds after winning for the entire match to that point. It taught her a lesson she carries close to her heart: In life and jiu-jitsu, you cannot take things for granted. You must keep pushing forward and never stop.It is with this determination that she returned to Jordan earlier this month. And now every time she drives to see those kids -- the ones who went from pointing fingers to carefully listening to their teachers every instruction -- it reminds Yacoub that even though the road ahead may not be easy, she will never give up on her mission to empower a generation of Jordanians.Editors note: Brian Canever is the digital content manager for the Center for Sport, Peace, & Society at the University of Tennessee, and works closely with the GSMP participants. After his start was pushed back two days, Lester matched his season high with eight strikeouts and overcame homers by Wil Myers and Evan Longoria as the Red Sox won 6-2 on Tuesday night and moved 1 1/2 games ahead of the Rays in the AL East. This game was more important than some others for Lester, who had struggled after a sensational opening month. "You never want to diminish any start," Boston manager John Farrell said, "but, again, where we are in the standings, where they are (and) knowing were only still in July, but this was a big game for us." The win kept the Red Sox (61-41) atop the division for the 58th consecutive day and moved them within eight victories of their total from last season. "Anytime you play somebody in your division, its more than just a regular-season game," Lester said, "whether it be the first part of the year or last part of the year. Its always big to beat somebody in your division, whether theyre half a game back or 20. It doesnt matter. If you continually beat the people in your division, youre going to have a good season." Lester (9-6) had been scheduled to make his first start after the All-Star break on Sunday. But that was delayed for two days to give him nine days of rest. "He was strong," Farrell said. "It seems like the added rest did him some good." The loss ended the Rays six-game winning streak and was just their third in 21 games, a surge that began when they were in fourth place, trailing the Red Sox by seven games. "Weve been playing pretty darned good and I am not going to be negative or critical about our group at all. We got outpitched a little bit," Tampa Bay manager Joe Maddon said. "Lester was a strike-thrower tonight." Boston is 3-4 since its four-game winning streak. Lester gave up two runs and seven hits with no walks in 6 1-3 innings. He is 3-6 with a 5.97 ERA since starting the season 6-0 with a 2.72 ERA. Four Red Sox pitchers combined for 13 strikeouts. Roberto Hernandez (5-11) allowed three runs in five innings and tied R.A. Dickey for the second-most losses in the AL. But it was the 28th time in Tampa Bays last 31 games that its starter gave up three runs or fewer. "He kept us in the game and gave us a solid chance to win,&quuot; Maddon said.dddddddddddd Boston led 3-2 before scoring three runs in the eighth on an RBI single by Stephen Drew and a two-run single by Jose Iglesias. Myers fifth homer of the season on the first pitch of the second inning cleared the left-field wall and gave the Rays a 1-0 lead. "That was pretty cool, especially to be able to hit it over The Monster," Myers said. "I got a good pitch and just ended up taking advantage of it." The Red Sox tied it in the bottom half on a run-scoring single by Mike Carp. They went ahead 2-1 in the third on a double steal. Shane Victorino led off with a double and went to third on a flyout by Daniel Nava. Dustin Pedroia was hit by a pitch and then stole second as catcher Jose Molina threw down and Victorino scored. The Red Sox had left runners at third base in three straight innings before Pedroia gave them a 3-1 lead with a sacrifice fly in the fifth. The Rays got another leadoff homer off Lester in the sixth when Longoria hit his 21st on the second pitch, cutting the lead to 3-2. "Those leadoff home runs like that can turn into big innings if you let them," Lester said. "I was able to settle back down and get some outs after that." And the Red Sox remained in first place. "It was a very big performance" by Lester, Victorino said. "You needed something like that, especially (against) a team thats been playing very well." NOTES: Myers missed the previous two games with a sore left wrist. He is 16 for 32 in his last eight games. ... Rays 1B James Loneys single in the second was the 1,000th hit of his career. ... ASHBURN, Va. -- Washington Redskins players and coaches say their turnaround from 0-2 to 4-2 is a matter of resilience.Coach Jay Gruden and cornerback Bashaud Breeland cited a strong response to adversity, and quarterback Kirk Cousins said no one hit the panic button. But this four-game winning streak isnt just about next man up, taking it one play at a time, never quitting, always believing or any other sports clich?.No, Washington has climbed back up the NFC East standings on a foundation of a balanced offense, clutch defense and improved play from Cousins over the past four weeks. The Redskins go into Week 5 at the Detroit Lions feeling good about themselves -- but not too good, knowing how quickly things can change. We know were on fire, but in order to stay on fire in this league you have to take it one day at a time, wide receiver DeSean Jackson said. You cant peak. We have the Lions ahead of us and thats a big game for us. Every game is big. After opening with home losses to the Pittsburgh Steelers and Dallas Cowboys, the Redskins have come up big in victories against the New York Giants, Cleveland Browns, Baltimore Ravens and Philadelphia Eagles .Its no coincidence that three of those four wins came with a heavy emphasis on the running game. The Redskins had 89 passing attempts to 39 rushes in the first two weeks of the season, and since then Cousins has thrown the ball 138 times and handed it off 109 times. The three-headed running attack of feature back Matt Jones, rookie Robert Kelley and third-down back Chris Thompson has allowed Cousins to get a breather and given him more time to execute the offense. It benefits everybody when we have good balance, Gruden said Monday. We love that recipe, man. Its been good to us when we can run the ball as much as we throw it.Throwing it has been better, too. After one touchdown and three interceptions in the first two games, Cousins has eight touchdowns and three interceptions during the streak. His QB rating was over 100 against the Giants and Browns, and while the picks have been a problem he has been good enough to make up for his mistakes. On the other side of the ball, the defense has withstood a season-ending injury to safety DeAngelo Hall, potentially season-ending ones to safety David Bruton and nose tackle Kedric Golston and injuries to Breeland and cornerback Dashaun Phillips. After getting torched for 38 points and 437 yards by Ben Roethlisberger and the Steelers, and giving up 27 points to Dak Prescott and the Cowboys, the Redskins defense hasnt allowed a second-half touchdown in four consecutive games.Theyre doing it a lot of different ways, Gruden said. Theyve mixed up their coverages and stunts and stopped the run game better in the second half. We give up some big plays, but they bend but dont break and hold to field goals, which is excellent.Defensive end Chris Baker said it has been a case of playing better fundamental football, which includes solving the tackling problem that had cropped up. A big difference is the defense is better rested because it has improved on third down of late. The Ravens and Eagles converted on just seven of 27 third downs over the past two weeks. And the Redskins defense hasnt allowed a touchdown since four minutes into the Baltimore game, a streak of almost eight full quarters.Defensive coordinator Joe Barry was criticized for early season struggles, and now he and the position coaches are getting some credit for the improvements and adjustmentsThose guys are doing an excellent job coaching those guys up, but the players are making plays and thats what its about, Gruden said. Theyre getting off blocks and theyre making the tackles when they have to make the tackles. ... Theyre pursuing to the football, theyre playing hard, theyre playing with confidence (and) theyre making plays.Game notes Gruden said receiver Josh Doctson will be shut down for a few weeks to rest a lingering left Achilles tendon injury. Injured reserve remains a possibility for the first-round pick. ... Linebacker Sua Cravens will increase his workload this week as he tries to come back from a concussion that caused him to miss the Eagles game, Gruden said. India finished the league stages of the Asian Champions Trophy with a hard-fought 2-1 win over hosts Malaysia to maintain an unbeaten record from their five matches. This victory also means they stay in top spot of the points table at the end of the round robin stage and will face South Korea - who finished fourth - in the semi finals on Saturday. Here are five takeaways from the first five matches that India will need to keep in mind going into the big weekend games. This team means businessBefore heading off to Kuantan, both head coach Roelant Oltmans and captain PR Sreejesh had talked about the importance of results in the wake of the quarterfinal exit at the 2016 Olympics. India have shown that intent all the way through the Asian Champions Trophy, into its fourth edition this time. The last time the event was held was in 2013, India had fielded their junior team as a plan to give them more exposure ahead of the Junior World Cup later that year in New Delhi. Theres another such event in Lucknow in a little over a month, but the Indian team selection indicated that the 6th-ranked Indians have come with a view to go for the title and nothing less.Theyre scoring goals, sometimes at willOne of the weaknesses of the Indian team at the Rio Olympics had been their wastefulness in open play, especially in their critical encounter against Belgium in the knockout stages. 25 goals in five matches indicate that there has been an improvement on that count, even though 19 of the goals came in two facile wins over Japan and China. There have been eight different scorers, and while Rupinder Pal Singh has led the scoring charts with his 10 goals, it has been refreshing to see the Indian players find goals from across the attacking line, and even defensive players like Jasjit Singh Kular and Pardeep Mor contribute to the scoresheet. What if Sreejesh isnt there? has an answer at lastSreejesh injured his ankle in the game against Pakistan but played through the pain to see India through to a 3-2 win and hasnt been seen in goal since. This has opened up the opportunity for 24-year-old Akash Chikte, whho looked impressive against China and was even better against Malaysia.dddddddddddd He did concede a penalty corner goal to Razie Rahim, but he was on the money off the other chances that fell the home sides way. His decision-making was quick, and a point-blank range effort off Malaysian striker Joel van Huizen in the first half will take some beating as the save of the tournament. This is a huge step, because India have not tried a lot of reserve goalkeepers in recent matches. In Chikte they seem to have a long-term prospect ready.Younger forwards are staking a claimIf India seemed over-reliant on SV Sunils creativity in Rio during the Olympics, this tournament has seen the likes of Talwinder Singh, Lalit Upadhyay and Affan Yousuf enhance their reputation as long-term prospects. India have shown a lot of tactical flexibility under Oltmans in the course of one week, with Sardar Singh occupying positions as varied as centre-half as well as the centre of midfield. The younger players like Upadhyay, Affan and Mor have also spent a lot of time across different positions and looked to feed Akashdeep Singh and Ramandeep Singh whenever possible.Discipline has been the keyIronically, the only blemish in their last league match was in an area where India had been exceptional across the first four, in which India conceded only two green cards, and none in the high-intensity game against Pakistan. Against Malaysia, however, Nikkin Thimmaiah and Birendra Lakra had to sit out for two minutes each inside the first half after being shown green cards. And they nearly gave Malaysia an irreversible advantage when Surender Kumar barged into Azri Hassan in the 49th minute and was shown a yellow and sent off for 10 minutes, an error for which he stands suspended for the next two matches. They managed to not just survive that setback, but even scored the winner through a Rupinder Pal drag flick in those last 10 minutes. A similar error in a knockout match could prove costly. ' ' '

PRETORIA, South Africa -- Springbok flyhalf Morne Steyn led an exodus of players out of the three-time Super Rugby champion Bulls and to overseas clubs on Tuesday, the latest group of South African internationals to head to big-paying teams in Europe and Japan. The Pretoria-based Bulls said the contracts of the eight players, all Springboks, had expired and they would leave before the start of the domestic Currie Cup this weekend. Their departure was confirmed three days after the Bulls lost to Australian team ACT Brumbies in the Super Rugby semifinals, the first time the Bulls have dropped a post-season game in South Africa. "These players all became Springboks at the Vodacom Blue Bulls, which speaks volumes of how much impact they had in our structures and teams," Bulls chief executive Barend van Graan said. The Bulls tried to retain a number of the players, but said they couldnt compete with the salaries overseas, which continue to draw away South Africas top rugby talent. Steyn, who has played more than 100 Super Rugby games for the Bulls and is the Springboks second-highest point scorer in tests, will join Stade Francais in France. Six of the eight players leaving Pretoria are still viewed as part of Springbok coach Heyneke Meyers plans and join a growing list of Springboks overseas. National try-scoring record holder Bryan Habana joined French club Toulon from Cape Towns Stormers this month, while fellow internationals JP Pietersen and Andries Bekker have signed for Japanese clubs. The 2.08-meter (6-foot-10) Bekkers international career was likely ended by his move to Japanese team Kobelco Steelers. Pietersen rocketed into the top 10 sports earners in South Africa after signing a $1.1 million per season contract with Japanese club Panasonic Wild Knights, South African newspaper The Sunday Times reported recently. Pietersens Japan deal was more than five times more than what he makes a year in South Africa off his provincial and national contracts combined. Along with Steyn, hooker Chiliboy Ralepelle, lock Juandre Kruger, loose forwards Dewald Potgieter and Jacques Potgieter, scrumhalf Jano Vermaak, centre Wynand Olivier and fullback Zane Kirchner also officially left the Bulls. The Bulls announced later Tuesday they had signed scrumhalf Piet Van Zyl from the Cheetahs to replace Vermaak. Habana, Pietersen, Steyn, Ralepelle, Kruger, Jacques Potgieter, Vermaak and Kirchner are all current Springboks and the number of internationals now playing overseas and in different seasons will complicate Meyers plans for the national team, which starts its Rugby Championship campaign on Aug. 17 against Argentina. The City captain, who has been plagued by recurring calf problems, was forced off after just seven minutes of the goalless last-16 second-leg tie against Dynamo Kiev on Tuesday night. Pellegrini says Kompany could be out for at least a month The Belgium international centre-back was injured as he slipped in a challenge with Kiev midfielder Vitaliy Buyalskiy and immediately kicked the ball out of play before signalling to the bench and hobbling down the tunnel, with a look of profound disappointment on his face. Kompany returned last month after suffering a grade-two tear to his calf against Sunderland on Boxing Day and, after City drew 0-0 at the Etihad to progress to the quarter-finals 3-1 on aggregate, boss Manuel Pellegrini confirmed Kompany has injured the same muscle again. Stats show Kompany concern Stats suggest captains injury could be major problem Vincent, unfortunately, has a muscle injury in his calf like he had before, he said. He said: Otamendi has an important kick but we think just a couple of days for him to recover. We will see the way he develops.Kompanys injury is a huge blow to Citys dwindling title challenge. He could miss crucial matches against West Brom and Bournemouth, as well as the clash against United at Old Trafford, which is live on Sky Sports 1 HD from 3.30pm. Nicolas Otamendi was also forced off against Dynamo Kiev The centre-backs lay-off at the start of 2016 was the 12th time Kompany has been sidelined due to a calf injury since the start of the title-winning 2011-12 campaign, and his third this season.City manager Manuel Pellegrini, who at the time voiced fears Kompanys injury could be career threatening, warned last month that the 29-year-old could break down again. Kompany was sidelined at the start of the year after injuring a calf against Sunderland Its very difficult to find a particular thing about a muscle injury. Theres a lot of things you can do to try to have less injuries but no one will be sure you are not going to have any more, said Pellegrini.Eliaquim Mangala replaced Kompany against Kiev and Yaya Toure took over as captain, but less than 20 minutes later City suffered a further defensive blow when Otamendi was forced off with an apparent knee injury.City now head into Sundays Manchester derby with both of their first-choice centre-backs injured.Watch City take on Manchester rivals United live on Sky Sports 1 HD on Sunday from 3.30pm. WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. -- Purdue hasnt won a game in November since 2012 and the Boilermakers are surrendering astonishing numbers in their five losses this season.Interim coach Gerad Parker, who also coaches Purdues wide receivers, pointed to turnovers as the key to why opponents are rolling over the Boilermakers. Purdue is minus-10 in turnovers in their losses, including 0-4 against Penn State, which converted two fumbles and two interceptions into 28 points last weekend on the way to a 62-24 rout.Everyone knows the turnover margin is the key, Parker said. Its putting ourselves in bad position not only turning it over on the plus side of the field, and thats killing us. That turnover margin also is on our defense, because we are not getting takeaways. Were putting our offense on long fields, and our defense is playing on short fields. The Boilermakers (3-5, 1-4 Big Ten), whose fourth-year coach Darrell Hazell was fired on Oct. 16 with a 9-33 record, visits Minnesota (6-2, 3-2) on Saturday. The Golden Gophers have won three in a row.In their defeats, the Boilermakers are allowing 45.2 points a game and 489.6 yards of total offense. The five teams that have beaten Purdue have run 345 plays for 2,448 yards, or 7.1 yards each time theyve snapped the ball, and it might not change this weekend. Minnesota has the fourth-ranked Big Ten rushing offense (207.3 yards a game) and Purdue is 13th in rushing defense (250 yards a game) and scoring defense (36.9) and last in total defense (449.8).And the November schedule is not promising foor a team that has lost 13 in a row in the 11th month.dddddddddddd After Minnesota, Purdue has Northwestern (4-4), Wisconsin (6-2) and visits rival Indiana (4-4).Purdue cornerback DaWan Hunte, who watched his team be outscored 45-7 in the second half by Penn State, said the Boilermakers simply arent making enough plays on the ball. When the ball is in the air, our job is to get it down and take it away, and we just didnt do that, Hunte said.Quarterback David Blough, who leads the Big Ten in passing at 293.3 yards a game, said the offenses inability to protect the football is every bit as much to blame for the negative results against Cincinnati, Maryland, Iowa, Nebraska and Penn State. When things start going the other way, we have to stand up and fight like men after bad stuff happens during the game, Blough said. We have to be able to do it for one another.Parker is well aware of Purdues lack of November success.Winning creates positive thoughts, and when you lose, it creates the opposite kind of thoughts, Parker said.Game notes Including the loss to Penn State, Purdue is 3-26 in Big Ten games from the beginning of the 2013 season, including 1-14 in Ross-Ade Stadium ...
